Music has always been a huge part in my life. It is a way for me to express who I am and what I love. God gave me a talent in learning to play and sing music and I am using this gift for him. Over the years, I’ve had many oppportunities to work with children and youth and it is something I enjoy. With music, I get to show them my passion behind it and hopefully get them to fall in love with music as much as I do. I love encouraging and bringing an upbeat atmosphere wherever I am and that will be of great help getting the students that I teach to be pumped for learning.
One teacher that truly inspired me was my elementary teacher. Her name was Mrs. Music. While she had another name, to everyone else in the school, Mrs. Music was her name. She always had a smile on her face and was always encouring to us. She gave me praise on whatever I did and pushed me to go further in my love for music. I will never forget how she took something so simple one time and made it into a wonderful way of making music. I don’t remember what grade I was in, but I will never forget this moment. I was wearing a bracelet that jiggled and made noise when I moved my arm. As a class we were clapping to the beat of a song and then she looked at me and stopped us. She came to me, asked to see my bracelet and talked about how my bracelet was a musical instrument. When we started the song again, I got to use my bracelet to play the beat and add a new element to the song. It was the coolest thing ever to take something so simple and make it into a wonderful memory. How I love my music of memory.
